Liverpool Sells EA Sports FC 27 Through Anfield Access
EA Sports FC 27 launches as licensed clubs sell exclusive stadiums, while The Grounds and Clubs stay locked to current-gen hardware.
EA Sports FC 27 launches worldwide on Friday, September 25, 2026, after Ultimate Edition buyers have already been inside the game for a week. Liverpool FC posted a buy-in note that skipped the usual feature dump and went straight to the asset the club actually controls: it is the only place you can play the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League at Anfield.
The same post sells The Grounds, a new shared football space. That mode, and Clubs with it, does not ship on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or the original Nintendo Switch.
Liverpool Turns Launch Day Into Club Content
On September 3, 2026, Liverpool and EA said they would keep EA Sports as the club’s official football simulation partner, a partnership that now spans more than a decade. The annual ratings-card films have pulled more than 115 million views and 6.6 million engagements on the club’s channels, which is the kind of number a publisher pays a club to keep minting.
Ben Latty, Liverpool’s chief commercial officer, put the next chapter on the women’s team as much as on the men’s squad.
We’re delighted to continue our relationship with EA SPORTS and extend a partnership that will now span more than a decade. What’s particularly exciting about this next chapter is the opportunity to build on that even further. An important part of that is the increased focus on Liverpool FC Women.

Rio Ngumoha is a global ambassador for EA Sports FC, listed alongside new signing Bradley Barcola. Virgil van Dijk leads the men’s ratings at 88, with Alisson at 87. Natalia Ramos leads Liverpool Women at 82. On September 24, the men’s squad opened physical ratings cards at the AXA Training Centre, with Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, and Ngumoha helping hand them out.
Smaller clubs ran the same trick on launch morning, posting old ratings for current players from former teams. The card is club media now, not a side quest for a games desk.
Anfield, Licensed and Exclusive
James Salmon, senior director of partnership marketing at EA Sports FC, said the company is still buying the clubs, leagues, and grounds fans already follow. The September 2 press release lists all 20 Premier League clubs, managers, stadiums, kits, and pundit lines as exclusive to EA Sports FC 27. Liverpool’s launch note adds the local hook: Champions League nights and league matches inside Anfield exist only here.
That stadium licence is why a football club’s newsroom reads like a store page. Supporters are not being asked to admire a demo. They are being asked to buy the one sim that can put their ground under UEFA lights.
Aston Villa signed a new marketing deal in the same package. Francesco Calvo, president of business operations at Villa, said the point was a “true and representative experience of playing as Aston Villa.” Liga BBVA MX returns with all 18 clubs. Mikel Arriola, the league’s commissioner, called EA Sports FC one of the main global stages left for a domestic league that wants younger fans.
Where Streets Meet the Stadium
EA’s September 24 post frames The Grounds as an open-world playground built for up to 100 players, split across three districts tied to the United Kingdom, France, and Argentina. It sits in the streets outside each Club’s clubhouse and stadium. Kylian Mbappé, Chloe Kelly, and Paulo Dybala are stationed as mentors, one per district, as the walk from street kickabout to matchday.
Clubs no longer lives as a separate menu. It is inside The Grounds, which is the change last-gen owners will feel first. A Club’s reputation is meant to show up in the district: more fans in the kit, a better clubhouse, banners taking over when teammates queue a 2v2, 3v3, or Rush game.
GROUNDS MATCH TYPES AT LAUNCH
- Small-sided: 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 matches, with 1v1 using a CPU keeper and the others using smaller goals and no keepers.
- Rush: Five-a-side on a dirt pitch in the world, separate from the stadium Rush gates scattered around the map.
- Kickabouts: Mixed games tested with Clubs players, including dodgeball, basketball, and bocce ball, paid in Grounds Coins and Archetype XP.
- Club events: 11v11 tournaments and rotating Live Events for full Clubs, on top of Seasons and Playoffs.
Matches in the small-sided set last three minutes. EA says every live game on a nearby pitch can be watched from the sideline, so a player can scout a recruit without waiting for a full 11 to log on. Archetypes now come with Amps, extra signature moves that can sit off-position (EA’s example is a left back with a Roberto Carlos-style Powershot), and Masteries that force a Pro to level a second archetype before a first one is finished.
Streetwear and matchday kits are the other half of the pitch. Liverpool said players can unlock LFC x adidas vanity items in the space. EA posted the adidas football collection in The Grounds during early access.

11v11 Clubs cups were already posting results on September 24, a day before the Standard Edition unlocked. The social mode is not a trailer. It is where organised amateur sides spent the early-access week.
Last-Gen Copies Drop Clubs Entirely
FC 27 still ships on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the original Switch. Store listings put the Standard Edition at $69.99 and Ultimate at $99.99, with the $149.99 Ultimate Plus window closed on August 31. Those last-gen SKUs keep Career, Ultimate Team, Kick-Off, and Online Seasons. They do not keep The Grounds, and because Clubs moved inside that hub they do not keep Clubs either.
WHERE THE GROUNDS ACTUALLY SHIPS
| Platform | The Grounds and Clubs | Free path to the full mode |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Yes | Native |
| Xbox Series X|S | Yes | Native |
| PC | Yes | Native |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Yes | Native, no cross-play with other platforms |
| PlayStation 4 | No | Free Dual Entitlement upgrade to PS5 |
| Xbox One | No | Free Dual Entitlement upgrade to Series |
| Nintendo Switch | No | None published |
PlayStation and Xbox owners can upgrade a last-gen copy at no extra cost inside the same family. Football Ultimate Team progress (players, items, coins, FC Points, match record) moves with the same EA account. Progress in Career, Online Seasons, and Clubs stays on the box that earned it. A Clubs grind on PS4 does not greet you on PS5.
The original Switch has no such ladder. Switch 2 does get The Grounds, but hands-on notes describe a 30-frames-a-second build with no cross-play against PS5, Xbox, or PC, which leaves matchmaking inside a smaller pool. Ultimate Edition early access opened on September 18 (PC at 23:00 UTC on September 17), so Standard buyers on September 25 walk into a Football Ultimate Team economy that has already been live for seven days. EA Play’s 10-hour trial started with that early-access wave.
Launch morning also produced a last-gen snag. Some PlayStation 4 buyers said Career Mode would not start, with error CE-34878-0 after a full download and a restart. The full-price last-gen SKU is still on the board. The social half of the box is not.
How the Transfer Market Was Rebuilt
Manager Career is the other mode Liverpool’s post bothered to name. EA’s Career pitch notes call the transfer rebuild one of the largest in the series, and the new pricing model is not an in-house guess. EA partnered with TransferRoom, the deal platform clubs use in real windows, and folded its expected transfer value (xTV) figures into Manager Career.
Player prices now move across seasons with form and league strength, instead of sitting still. Deals run in stages rather than one chat, which is how a bidding war, a late hijack, or a re-open is supposed to appear. The old 3D negotiation scenes are gone, replaced by a 2D desk that keeps clauses, sell-on rights, and contract terms on one screen. A Transfer Hub splits scouting from the deal pile.
Early hands-on notes keep landing on the same two Career beats: the window feels closer to a real boardroom, and the pitch still looks like last year’s pitch. EA also tied player overalls in Career to current-season form, so a rating can rise or fall inside a campaign instead of waiting for next year’s database.
Gallery Sets That Never Leave Your Club
Football Ultimate Team’s new Gallery is EA’s answer to cards that vanish the moment you feed an SBC. You slot past and present Player Items into sets by club, league, nation, rarity, or campaign, raise a Gallery Level, and keep the cards. Completing a set does not submit them. EA’s launch notes say more than 100 sets ship on day one, including a Starter Set, with club crests and kits as the low-end reward and Gallery Tokens at higher grades.
GALLERY RULES AT KICK-OFF
- No sacrifice: A set uses items that stay in the Club, unlike a Squad Building Challenge.
- Grades: Sets score D, C, B, A, or S from item scores, and a later upgrade pays every skipped grade.
- History: An item still counts after it leaves the Club, so a card earned in September can finish a set that arrives in winter.
- Token shop: Gallery Tokens buy fandom cosmetics and, at launch, base Hall of FUT player items.
EA’s scale sheet for the whole game is the other number dump clubs will quote all year: 21,000+ players, 800+ clubs and national teams, 140 stadiums, 35+ leagues, and 300+ football partners. New or rebuilt grounds in that 140 include AS Monaco’s Stade Louis II, Real Oviedo’s Estadio Carlos Tartiere, Legia Warsaw’s municipal stadium, Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, VfB Stuttgart’s MHPArena, and the three promoted Premier League homes, Portman Road, MKM Stadium, and CBS Arena. S.S. Lazio’s return takes licensed Serie A Enilive clubs to 17.
Anfield Fan Zones Open After Kick-Off
The club is not done after the digital store page. Liverpool said supporters can play FC 27 in the Anfield Fan Zone before the women’s Merseyside derby on September 27 and before the men’s home match against Manchester City on October 11. That is the partnership in physical form: the same licence that sells UCL nights in the sim now sits on a stand outside the real ground.
THE FC 27 OPENING WEEK
- September 3, 2026: Liverpool and EA renew the official sim partnership and flag women’s-team content from AXA Melwood.
- September 18, 2026: Ultimate Edition early access opens (PC from 23:00 UTC on September 17); EA Play’s 10-hour trial starts.
- September 24, 2026: EA publishes the full Grounds brief; Liverpool films ratings cards at the AXA Training Centre.
- September 25, 2026: Standard Edition launches worldwide; Liverpool posts the Anfield buy-in.
- September 27, 2026: Fan Zone play before the LFC Women Merseyside derby.
- October 11, 2026: Fan Zone play before Liverpool vs Manchester City at Anfield.
Standard Edition owners who still sit on a PS4, an Xbox One, or a Switch 1 can play the league at Anfield in Kick-Off. They cannot walk the new streets outside it, and they cannot take Clubs with them. The club that sold them the night sky over the Kop already moved the playground to a newer box.
