GTA 6 Ships as an $80 Single-Player Console Event
Grand Theft Auto VI is a $79.99 single-player console launch on November 19, with no new Online, no PC date, and a download code in the box.
Grand Theft Auto VI is a $79.99 single-player game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, due November 19, 2026. Pre-orders opened June 25. Rockstar is not selling a new GTA Online with it.
The Florida story is the product on the box. The money that paid for the wait still sits in Grand Theft Auto V, and that title has not been switched off.
Rockstar’s Florida Story Is a Solo Campaign
Rockstar’s own site frames Jason and Lucia’s Leonida story in Vice City, USA, inside a fictional Florida called Leonida. “Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them,” the page says. When a simple job goes wrong, they land on the dark side of the sunniest place in America and have to lean on each other to get out of a statewide criminal plot.
That is a two-lead story, not the three-protagonist structure of GTA V. The official product line is blunt about the rest. “Grand Theft Auto VI is a single player experience, coming November 19 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S,” Rockstar wrote when it opened pre-orders. The PlayStation and Xbox store listings match that language. Same-day multiplayer is not on the receipt.
The company has been feeding the old online world while it finishes this one. Digital pre-orders include a free month of GTA+, which Rockstar says is the way to get more out of GTA Online and is “instantly redeemable” in Grand Theft Auto V and other catalog titles. The sequel’s first extra is a month back in the 2013 game.
On August 27, 2026, Rockstar posted Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look. On September 17 it announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, 34 original tracks timed to the same November 19 date. The marketing is about place, music, and two leads. It is not about a new live service.
Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them.

The official page also tells PlayStation owners the game “Plays Best On” PS5. Xbox still gets a day-one version. PC is not on that page at all.
What $79.99 Buys on November 19
The Standard Edition is $79.99 in the United States. The Ultimate Edition is $99.99, a $20 step up for extra vehicles, weapons, clothes, and in-game shops tied to Jason and Lucia. In the United Kingdom those prices are £69.99 and £89.99. Anyone who buys before November 20, 2026, gets the Vintage Vice City Pack, including a ’55 Vapid Stanier and a garage, outfits, and a weapon pattern.
Pre-loading starts November 12, a week before launch. If you want a box, you still download the game. Rockstar said the physical version holds a download code inside the box, on sale from that same November 12 date so the file can land before Thursday night. “A disc will not be included in the box,” the store listing says.
THE TWO EDITIONS ON CONSOLES
| Edition | US price | Platforms at launch | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $79.99 | PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S | The single-player game; Vintage Vice City Pack if bought before November 20; digital pre-orders add one month of GTA+ |
| Ultimate | $99.99 | PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S | Standard contents plus extra cars, guns, clothes, and exclusive shops threaded through the story |
The sticker sits where the industry has been probing an $80 floor. Take-Two chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick would not pin a development number, but he did call the project “expensive.” Analysts quoted around those interviews have put the spend in a $1 billion to $1.5 billion range. Rockstar has never confirmed a figure, and the $2 billion claims that travel with the hype are not in any filing.
Price resistance is thinner than the comment threads imply. People who waited this long are not bargaining over $10. They are angry that the box is a code, that a new Online is missing, and that the catalog around the game (controllers, vinyl, a merch crate) is already ringing up.
GTA V Still Sells After 13 Years
Grand Theft Auto V launched on September 17, 2013. Guinness World Records logged 11.21 million copies and $815.7 million in the first 24 hours, then $1 billion in three days. That game is still on the price list. Take-Two told investors GTA V had sold-in over 230 million units as of the quarter ended June 30, 2026, across three console generations.
The sequel is late in part because that install kept paying. In fiscal 2026, which ended March 31, 2026, GTA Online bookings rose 6%, Take-Two CFO Lainie Goldstein said, beating the company’s May guide. Recurrent spending on the Grand Theft Auto series rose 5% that year, a separate figure, with GTA Online lifted by the “A Safehouse in the Hills” drop, which the company called one of the best-performing updates in its history. The update brought mansion properties, new missions, and the return of Michael De Santa from GTA V.
THE GTA V MACHINE IN ONE SNAPSHOT
- Day-one 2013: 11.21 million copies and $815.7 million in 24 hours, per Guinness World Records.
- Three-day haul: $1 billion in sales by September 20, 2013.
- Still shipping: Over 230 million GTA V units sold-in as of the quarter ended June 30, 2026.
- Last full year: GTA Online bookings up 6% in fiscal 2026; series recurrent spending up 5%.
Take-Two’s annual report for the year ended March 31, 2026, said Grand Theft Auto products generated 12.4% of net revenue. For a publisher defined by this series, that share is the tell. NBA 2K, mobile titles, and the old GTA Online kept the lights on. November 19 is the date when that mix is supposed to flip.
Two Delays Put the Date on a Thursday
The first trailer, in December 2023, pointed at 2025. On May 6, 2025, Trailer 2 arrived with a new target of May 26, 2026. On November 6, 2025, Rockstar moved it again.
We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.
Rockstar Games, Newswire, November 6, 2025
The letter set Thursday, November 19, 2026, and thanked players for patience. Zelnick has since told investors the company is holding that date. Pre-orders on June 25 were the hard commercial turn after two slips.
THE ROAD TO NOVEMBER 19
- September 17, 2013: Grand Theft Auto V launches on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and sets the day-one entertainment sales marks above.
- December 2023: Rockstar reveals Grand Theft Auto VI with a 2025 window.
- May 6, 2025: Trailer 2 lands and the date moves to May 26, 2026.
- November 6, 2025: Rockstar delays again to November 19, 2026, citing polish.
- May 21, 2026: Take-Two reports fiscal 2026 and guides fiscal 2027 around the November 19 launch.
- June 25, 2026: Pre-orders open at $79.99 and $99.99.
- August 27, 2026: Rockstar releases An Extended Look.
- November 12, 2026: Pre-load and code-in-box shipments begin, with launch on November 19.
The “we got this before GTA VI” joke dies on that Thursday. What replaces it is a download, a story in Leonida, and whatever Online plan Rockstar still has not put on a calendar.
Take-Two Needs $8 Billion From This Fiscal Year
On May 21, 2026, Take-Two reported fiscal 2026 net bookings of $6.72 billion, up 19% from $5.65 billion a year earlier and about $750 million above the guide it gave in May 2025. GAAP net revenue was $6.66 billion. Recurrent consumer spending was 78% of those full-year bookings. GTA Online and GTA V were still among the largest contributors, next to NBA 2K and the mobile slate.
The initial $8.0 to $8.2 billion outlook for fiscal 2027, the year ending March 31, 2027, is company-wide, not a GTA 6 forecast. Zelnick said fiscal 2027 “will establish new record levels of operating performance driven by the November 19th launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, along with strong execution across our portfolio.” The company described that as about 20% growth. Four-plus months of a new GTA, plus NBA 2K, Zynga, and the old online games, have to carry the number.
Zelnick has called Grand Theft Auto VI “arguably the most anticipated entertainment property of all time.” The 8-K is colder. It names a date, a bookings range, and a live-services base that already throws off most of the company’s sales. If the single-player launch is soft, that base is the floor. If it is huge, Take-Two still has to attach a new Online later without wrecking the one that just had a banner year.
Xbox is already treating pre-orders as a platform event. Matthew Ball, chief strategy officer at Xbox, said the company is “very happy with GTA VI pre-orders,” that the title is “breaking records for XBOX,” and that Xbox’s share of those pre-orders matches its share of the console market.
Tom, we are very happy with GTA VI pre-orders. The title is breaking records for XBOX, we expect even more records will be broken throughout the fall, and our internal analysis shows our share of pre-orders to be matching our share of the console market.

Why PC and a New Online Are Missing
Rockstar has not announced a PC edition, a window, or a commitment that one exists. GTA V reached PC after the console launch. Red Dead Redemption 2 did the same on a shorter gap. History is not a date. For now the install base that can buy this game on November 19 is PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Last-generation hardware is out. Nintendo’s Switch 2 is not on the list. The launch SKU is a current-gen console story with a download behind the cardboard.
WHAT LAUNCH DOES NOT INCLUDE
- No new GTA Online: Store pages and the Newswire call it a single-player experience; a successor mode is unannounced.
- No PC SKU: Rockstar has not dated a Windows version, so the first sale is console-only.
- No disc in the box: Physical copies shipping from November 12 carry a download code, not a Blu-ray.
- No last-gen or Switch 2: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are the only platforms on the order page.
That split is the business design, not a leak. Console owners pay $79.99 now. PC owners wait. GTA Online on GTA V keeps taking money from people who already own the last game, including anyone who redeemed the GTA+ month that came with a VI pre-order. A new Online, if it comes, can be priced and timed after the story has already printed.
Some of the loudest fighting around the game is this gap. People who wanted a new multiplayer on day one read “single player experience” as a stall. People who blamed Online for the 13-year wait read the same line as a relief. Rockstar has not broken the tie.
The Wait Is Already on Sale
On September 24, 2026, Rockstar began taking orders for The Goodtime State, Vice City Collection, a limited merch bundle sold separately from the game, “while supplies last.” Listings circulating with the product shots put it at $399.99. The game is not in the crate. The $79.99 download is a second purchase.
Around that drop, fans have been adding up Ultimate Edition pre-orders, vinyl, limited controllers, magazine prints, and a Netflix bill for the Extended Look. The exact stacks are personal. The pattern is not. Rockstar is ringing up the wait in pieces: a month of GTA+, a $20 Ultimate ladder, a code in a box, a merch window, a soundtrack album. November 19 is when the story file unlocks. The register has been open since June.
The meme is over. The download is not. On November 19, Rockstar will sell a Florida campaign at $79.99 to two consoles, leave PC and a new Online off the invoice, and keep GTA V’s live service running in the other window. That is the product. The hype was never the SKU.
